Stasis (medicine)

In medicine, stasis is the state in which the normal flow of a body liquid stops, for example the flow of blood through vessels or of intestinal contents through the digestive tract.

Gastric stasis refers to the retention of fluid in the stomach. It is a side effect of some drugs, such as opioids, and can cause nausea and emesis (vomiting). It is also commonly associated with migraine headaches.
